Bobby Jones was among the most successful and famous golfers of all time. During his peak from 1923 to 1930, he dominated top-level amateur and professional competitions, winning at least one of the major championships in each of those years. In 1930 he capped off his triumphs in championship golf by doing something no one had done before or has done since: he won all four of the major golf tournaments of that time, an accomplishment that came to be known as the Grand Slam.

In 2030 the world of golf will celebrate the 100th anniversary of that feat. Golf’s governing bodies, the USGA and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland are making plans to commemorate Mr. Jones’s historic achievement. The USGA has already announced that the 2030 U.S. Open will be played at Merion, where Bobby completed the Grand Slam. The Jones family and its licensees and partners expect to coordinate and collaborate with the USGA and R&A during the years leading up to and including 2030.

“In the opinion of many people, of all the great athletes, Jones came the closest to being what we call a great man.”
